While I’ve worked with many customers this month who have come to our beautiful island to look at real estate, two have had a big impact on me! One couple pulled out all the stops – sold everything they owned (pretty much), quit their jobs, and showed up on island “ready to buy!” Now THAT is a case of listening to your heart! Sadly, they’ve since learned that they can’t get a mortgage until they’ve lived and held jobs here foPicture1r at least two years….which has put a kink in their “plans” (I’m using that term very loosely, LOL!). Another customer came to see a waterfront property he wanted to use for an investment. He has “run the numbers” every which way they can be run….and try as hard as he might….he can’t get comfortable with the income projections. As we sat on the porch of said investment property, he was mesmerized by the views, smells, and sounds. I could literally see him transformed! Can you really put a price tag on that? If it brings you peace and tranquility, how do you figure that into “the numbers?” So one of my lessons this month, and a big THANK YOU to the folks who taught me, is that you really do have to BALANCE the head and the heart. It’s important to do your homework and “run the numbers.” We live in a world where that stuff does matter….. but it’s also important to listen to your heart and follow your bliss. It’s not ALL about money (especially if you already have plenty)!! So although I didn’t make a sale in either case, what I gained from the experience was priceless!
