Greetings from the Algarve!
Yep, you read that right! I’m enjoying a wonderful vacation in Portugal! But, missing Island Life! I do love the change of scenery, enjoy the tasty food, love seeing and meeting new friends, but I do really miss St Croix!
There’s just something about St Croix that “gets in your blood.” I can name countless people I’ve met while living in St Croix (14 years now I’ve called this rock home!) who have left, and returned several years later. They all say the same thing….it’s in their blood and there’s just no place like it …and they had to “come home.”
It’s true….there’s no place like St Croix. Those of us who live here enjoy such a wonderful climate, share a love of the sea, are peace seekers who enjoy a more “natural” lifestyle, and we become “like family” very quickly. When you live on a small rock, you learn to depend on each other! That’s a nice thing that seems to be missing from the hussle bussle of the mainland, where everyone is so spread out, busy, and in their own little world.
And you can ask anyone here what they love most about the island, and I’ll bet you dollars to donuts if it’s not the FIRST thing they say, it’s in the top three…. THE PEOPLE! And considering all the other wonderful things about this island, that’s saying A LOT!!
St Croix is home to some of the nicest, friendliest, most wonderful people in the world! But don’t take my word for it! Come and see for yourself!
Hang out at Ziggys on a Friday night (the gas station on the east end) after a nice hike to Jacks & Issacs bay. Go enjoy some amazing rotisserie chicken at the La Reine Chicken Shack mid island and then stroll thru our Botanical Gardens. Go west and have a pizza at the Lost Dog in Frederiksted late one evening, after spending a day on the beach and at the bar at The Fred. Treat yourself to some great music and camaraderie on the water with Lyric Sails. I can pretty much guarantee you’ll fall in love with at least a dozen people in addition to falling head over heels for our island!
