As we closed out 2018, all of us here at St Croix Island Life stopped to reflect on how much we have to be thankful for. Our island has rebounded beautifully, we all have a roof over our heads and plenty to eat, and we have jobs we love!
Just prior to Christmas, Joe Caruso, (one of our agents and the President of a Rotary club here), made us aware of 8 people in our local hospital who cannot be discharged because they don’t have any family that will claim them and pick them up. How sad is that!?? So we pooled our resources and went shopping – and played Santa the week before Christmas. We got each of them a large bag of gifts, like socks, robes, underwear, and toiletries, and even a lighted Christmas goodie to sit by their bed. I hope we brought some joy to their lives; it made us feel good to do something for those less fortunate, that’s for sure! And we all counted our blessings as we took the rest of the day off and motored over to Buck Island for our office Christmas party! Fried chicken, slaw, pasta salad, biscuits and cheesecake were enjoyed, and we played corn hole on the beach and floated and sunbathed the day away. Life is good here!
