Our favorite things about the holiday season in St Croix…
Kim Lucas – My favorite thing about the holiday season in St Croix is going to the Christmas artists’ markets. I love seeing friends and former customers while shopping in a gorgeous outdoor setting, listening to fun and upbeat local Christmas songs. The weather is perfect, the mood is festive and happy and it really puts me in the Christmas spirit!
Brooke Myers – I have a few favorites! Since we moved here, every Christmas we go to the beach, sit in the sand and soak up the sun! The first year we did it, I thought it was the coolest thing! It was December 25th and for the first time in my life I wasn’t bundled up and freezing. Also, I love Coquito, the Puerto Rican eggnog. It’s something I had never had before moving here. A perfect Christmassy drink. What’s cool too is that many people here don’t see their family for the holidays. So our friends become family and we spend the holidays with them. Potlucks, pool party’s, etc. Although I know we all miss our family during the holidays, spending time with our friends still makes it special!
Connie Stellhorn particularly enjoys the boat parade; “It is one of a kind, even lighting the fireworks barge to prove they do it their way in St Croix!” She also enjoys the Three Kings Parade, which she says “is a truly Caribbean parade and festival straight out of no text book ever!”
I always look forward to several things in St Croix at Christmas! We so enjoy the Boat Parade & Fireworks, attending the Christmas Village in Frederiksted, going to the Adult & Children’s Parades, and enjoying Christmas Dinner on a beach with family and friends.
One of my favorite things to do during our Christmas Festival is participating in the parade with the Gentlemen of Jones troop with my father who is one of the founding members of Gentlemen of Jones. Another is dancing behind Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Nights thru Christiansted fore-day mahnin on Three Kings Day!
