The West End (WE) of the island is home to Sandy Point, which is a spectacular uninhabited, pristine beach. This is a protected area due to turtle nesting, and is regulated by the Park Service. The beaches along the entire west end are truly “film worthy” and have been featured in motion pictures. The water is typically calm and clear and turquoise. The cruise ships dock on the west end, in the town of Frederiksted. This part of the island consists of a number of densely populated neighborhoods of modest homes, large tracts of undeveloped land, a rainforest, plantation ruins, and unique and expensive properties.
