1.  Make-up. Unless you are a fan of the “raccoon look”, or will be inside all day, a lot of make-up just does not work here!  But hey, NO one wears it, so you’ll “blend”.  We are very real here – and the culture is very accepting.  It’s much more cool to be cool and be able to take a dip at a moment’s notice and not worry about raccoon eyes!

2.  Long hair.  Yes, it’s beautiful.  And yes, you can put it up and be cool.  But let’s face it, it’s a pain in the butt and you will be SO much more comfortable with short, sassy, easy hair here. Anyway, short hair makes you look younger, so get over yourself and cut that hair!

3.  I’m not even sure they still make these, it’s been so long since I’ve seen, worn, or needed them, but if they do still exist, they don’t here…..pantyhose.   Don’t know about you, but giving up pantyhose was not a big problem or hardship for me!

4.  Heels.  Our streets and sidewalks are uneven, have big holes, are sandy, just not conducive to heels of any kind.  I even have a hard time with wedges.  Oh believe me, they are still worn here, but not by anyone who is interested in preserving their ankles!  Keep those heels for special occasions, but take them in your purse, and wear flip-flops to the door, and THEN put your heels on!!!
