Katie Nelson

Katie Nelson is a wonderful human being who stalks stray dogs, captures and rehabilitates them, finds them foster and furever homes. She is passionate about saving dogs! This is one of her posts from Facebook and it is so “On Point!”

I live in a place where people come on cruise ships to escape their lives, their reality. I live in a place where I drive home from work and see my badass friend, every day, taking people on horseback into the Caribbean Sea creating life moments they’ll never forget. A place where every afternoon I pass a beach full of jet skiers and a gorgeous sailboat filled with people and talented musicians going out on the water to catch the best sunset you’ll ever see. And just past that one of my favorite people, and unbelievable chef, is cranking out vegan food for the masses, changing minds. A place where I can post on facebook that I got a flat tire on the highway and someone will be there in less than 10 minutes to help me out. A place where you can wake up at noon on a Tuesday and decide you wanna go into the rainforest and get drunk on banana daiquiris and you’ll have absolutely no trouble finding 4 friends to come with on no notice. I live in a place where it’s understood that when you pick someone up at the airport, you do it with a greeting cocktail. And Cruzan Rum stand sits at baggage claim handing out welcome samples. A place, like any place humans exist, where there is sadness, violence, corruption; but the majority of the people you run into throughout the day are your family. And genuinely care about your well-being, about your purpose, about you. Even if you bumped heads at some point, when push comes to shove we help our fellow islanders, we have each others back. I live in a place where people are allowed, even encouraged, to be weird and passionate. It’s a place full of dreamers, doers, entrepreneurs. These are the things I choose to see here. I live in a place that makes me stop quite frequently and say, I can’t believe this is the place I live.
