ST CROIX NEWS: Hot New Spots in St Croix

There are some great new businesses that have just opened in St Croix that we are LOVING!! Here are a few:

Beauregards

Who doesn’t love a great beach bar? The Buccaneer has just added another jewel in their crown with Beauregards. The Buccaneer has long been one of our favorite beaches to go to, especailly on the east end of the island. All beaches here are public, and we enjoy renting the chairs at the Mermaid beach and spending the afternoon enjoying the breezes, sipping Lime in de Coconuts (great tropical drink), using their free WIFI to answer your emails, and of course taking an occasional refreshing dip in the sea. NOW they’ve added Beauregards at the Grotto Beach. Great drinks, unparallelled views, and tasty food.

Beauregards The Company House Hotel

Company House

The Company House Hotel has re-opened under new ownership/management. It’s gorgeous! The entryway has a lovely bar area, and a nice spot for live music, which is coming soon. The bar, called Dukes, will soon have tapas and small plates. Owners of Dukes are the “famous duo” here – Todd Manley and Brandt Pell (these guys own several of St Croix’s best restaurants….40 Strand, Toast, RAW, Comanche Mill Pizza). Both the hotel and the bar are great additions to downtown Christiansted!

AMA at Cane Bay, Restaurant

Our own Chef Digby Strideron, named Caribbean Chef of the Year for 2018 by Caribbean Journal’s annual Travel Awards. recently opened his new restaurant in Frederiksted called Braata. Now he is opening a second one at the former Waves at Cane Bay location, which is right on the waterfront on the North Shore – called AMA, which gets its name from the Taino word for ocean. The menu will focus on “progressive seafood that’s been sustainably sourced,” Stridiron said. We know it will be fabulous!

840 Stx Café – Taking Cannabis to a ‘Higher Class’!

Article exerpted from the St Croix Source, Anne Salafia, author & photos

Frederiksted’s newest cafe, 840 STX, offers cannabis oils, salves, and accessories along with its breakfast foods and beverages. It’s legal! The café serves coffee, kombucha, smoothies, local fruit juices, island-made pastries, Leatherback beers, cocktails, salads and acai bowls. It promotes the option of cannabis oil infusions. The 100 percent THC-free infusions won’t get anyone high. The cannabis oils and salves sold there won’t either.

“The island has nothing like this,” said Bill Kaltenbaugh, one of the establishment’s founders. “We hope to appeal to a health conscious demographic and people who appreciate a more natural approach.” He and co-founder Kevin Merillat take good health to heart and take their cannabis oil products in earnest, as does their local partner, Garfield Connor.

“Cannabis was one of the first medications ever,” said Merillat, pointing to its healing properties for skin problems, particularly rashes. “We will proudly display our cannabis-related accessories,” he said.

On the accessory shelf behind him, Janis Joplin smiles down upon the scene.

Marijuana and hemp plants both come from the cannabis family but hemp does not contain the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active chemical found in marijuana plants. The 840 STX cannabis oils, also known as CBD, are extracted from hemp and are therapeutic. Also on the menu at 840 STX are private label cannabis oils that come in a variety of flavors: natural, lemon, cinnamon, and mint. Rolling papers, grinder cards, and T-shirts also bear the 840 STX logo, but customers will also recognize familiar labels such as Bamboo. “We want to live up to our motto, ‘The Higher Class.’ So we won’t do anything that’s not super professional,” said Kaltenbaugh.Café hours are 6:30 a.m. to 8:40 p.m.
