Big News for St Croix ROTARY

On August 11, 2018, the Rotary International President Barry Rassin and his wife Esther will arrive on St. Croix to acknowledge the significant accomplishments of the four Rotary Clubs on St. Croix. His visit at this time underscores Rotary International’s recognition of the contributions of the Rotarians on St. Croix in their service to the community and the world. During this calendar year, the Rotary Club of St. Croix will celebrate its 60th anniversary, the Rotary Club of St. Croix West will celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Rotary Club of St. Croix Mid-Isle will celebrate its 30th anniversary, and the Rotary Club of St. Croix Harborside will celebrate its 22nd anniversary.

Therefore, for the past sixty years, Rotary has been an integral part of the development and transformation of the St. Croix society. Its ideals of “Service above Self” and “Building Goodwill and Better Friendship” has contributed to stimulating and building good character into the fabric of our society. Rotarians are proud of these accomplishments and are looking forward to continuing to be of service throughout the rest of this century. We are very proud to say that the current President of St Croix Mid-Isle Rotary is our own Joe Caruso! Here’s a little “promo” from Joe that will give you a little insight into the things our Rotary chapter does here:

“It has always been my immense pleasure to say that I am a Rotarian; now, I have the opportunity to say that while serving as a club president when Barry Rassin, the President of Rotary International, visits our beautiful island. I feel that his visit will bring more public awareness of what Rotary provides to our island, and to the world.

Over the past thirty years, the Rotary Club of St. Croix Mid-Isle has completed many service projects, including supplying television monitors and heart defibrillators to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and refurbishing the family room at that same hospital, as well as providing a senior multi-sensor room at the Herbert Grigg Home for the Aged, computers for the blind at the Association for Independent Living, and reading rooms in all of the public housing communities. We also planted 300 trees throughout St. Croix.

Our ongoing service to the community includes Saturday morning breakfast at the Lighthouse Mission, educational scholarships and grants to the students of St. Croix, maintaining our Peace Garden, and providing other services where we see a need.

This year, my goals for our club will be to support and maintain past projects, club membership, literacy and vocational service programs, educational grants, and fellowship.”
