The Nature Conservancy in the Caribbean

The Virgin Islands Coral Innovation Hub on St. Croix recently “officially” launched. Many partners, supporters and community leaders join in on the grand opening celebration in May.

This center for science represents an important beacon of hope for reefs throughout the Caribbean. In their new lab facility, The Nature Conservancy and partners will advance cutting-edge coral reproduction techniques—breeding significantly more corals with greater survival rates to help reefs recover at a meaningful scale. Using their extensive land-based and underwater nurseries, they are spearheading one of the world’s largest coral restoration initiatives, spanning 150+ acres of reef area in St. Croix’s East End Marine Park.

These efforts, in tandem with work at their Coral Innovation Hubs in The Bahamas and the Dominican Republic, are mobilizing world-class science and a global network of partners to help imperiled reefs before it’s too late.
