Anyone who has ever sold a house has probably had a little taste of Seller’s Remorse. It’s that feeling you get when an offer comes in, right after the excitement of the offer wears off…that says, “OH NO!!!! AM I REALLY DOING THIS??” After all, you fell in love with that home for some reason, and you’ve probably enjoyed many happy times there. Now it’s real…you’re leaving…and will have to say goodbye. Even if you were anxious for a sale, there’s some bittersweet stuff that’s for sure going to happen!!
Having coached many of my sellers through this phase, yesterday, I got to experience it, firsthand, myself. I put my home here in ST Croix on the market on Monday, and yesterday, received an offer that I could not refuse. In addition to the emotional piece of getting rid of a FANTASTIC home that I really, really loved, I also am second guessing the TIMING of the sale. Should I have waited? Should I have asked more for it? What if the economy turns around and skyrockets like it did in 2006? In 2008 (the peak of our market), my home appraised for DOUBLE what I’m selling it for. I’m selling it for what I paid for it in 2006. OUCH – but AHHH. I’m tired of being a landlady, tired of being responsible for a home I don’t get to enjoy, and ready to move on.
I did spend a very sleepless night second guessing my decision…..but in the end….I think I made the right one. My life has been SO blessed – and when things happen so effortlessly like this – to me it’s a sign that it’s meant to be. So even if the market skyrockets, and it very well could, I’m going to be content with this decision.
So onward to the next chapter!!! Don’t YOU want to be responsible for giving someone a little Seller’s Remorse? Now is the time….it really is a great time to buy here in St Croix….and from all indications, the market is really heating up!
