St Croix Will Be Seeing an Increase in Cruise Visitors

Press release August 25, 2022

Officials from the Royal Caribbean Group’s Operations and Development team recently met with Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) staff to prepare for an increase in cruise visitors to Frederiksted, St. Croix, starting in November 2022. The Royal Caribbean Group officials participated in a series of working meetings with VIPA to lay the groundwork for the increase in passenger arrivals, visit sites frequented by their cruise guests, and finalize the agreement between VIPA and the group. The Bryan/Roach Administration and private sector stakeholders are also holding meetings to discuss planned improvements for the cruise industry on St. Croix.

The Royal Caribbean Group announced the cruise line’s plan to increase cruise passenger volume to St. Croix and St. Thomas. The territory will receive 70 percent more cruise passengers at Crown Bay and two and a half times the number of cruise visitors to St. Croix. VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe explained passenger levels on St Croix will increase from 50,200 in 2019 to 140,000 in 2023.

Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte described the announcement as big news for the territory.

He stated: “If people out there in the world, who did not know that the USVI’s cruise side has come back to life, you know now. The news is even more welcoming for us who do business on St Croix. To hear that the business is almost tripling is welcoming news, because that does not only mean that we have more passengers coming to St Croix…that means that the investment in the cruise excursion side should begin now.”
